Dear Supporters,
Faced with a financial crisis and an economic recession, the U.S. government has passed a tax rebate. They say people will receive this money between May and July. We are supposed to run out to places like Walmart to "stimulate the economy." This "rebate" is money that the government took from us, and has been misusing to rain death and destruction down on Iraq, while criminally neglecting human needs like health care, education, affordable housing, bridges and other infrastructure.
Our request is that you put some or all of this "rebate" money toward an effort to end the war in Iraq and secure funding for human needs instead. The Anti-War Committee and the Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War have a historic opportunity and challenge to make our voices heard this September when the Republican National Convention will be invading St. Paul.
Organizing a massive protest on this occasion will require some very large expenditures including a stage, sound system, porta potties, a larger office, and staff. Also there is the time and expense of the fight with the city of St. Paul to win a permit so that we can exercise our First Amendment rights.
Your donation will help fund the Anti-War Committee during the busiest period we have ever had. This summer we're planning to train hundreds of people to peace marshall and volunteer in other capacities during the RNC. We are also organizing a “No Peace for the War Makers” demonstration on day four of the convention.
Your donation will be split between the Anti-War Committee and the Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War. Please support the most important peace demonstrations our state has ever hosted.
