Stop Military Aid to Colombia Click here to download Word document

To Minnesota Senators Norm Coleman and Mark Dayton: We, the undersigned, urge you to vote against all proposals that provide economic, material, or human resource aid to the military, police, or paramilitaries of Colombia. Colombia has the worst human rights record in Latin America - 4000 civilians were killed last year, most of them by paramilitary groups, backed by the military. Since the US began sending aircraft and training to Colombia in 2000, politically motivated killings have risen from 14 to 20 per day, and the number of kidnappings and disappearances has doubled. Colombia is the most-dangerous country for trade unionists, with over 100 union leaders killed every year. These crimes are well-documented by international human rights organizations, and the U.S. State Department, but they go unpunished. Increasing U.S. military aid since 1999 has deepened Colombia's humanitarian crisis, as U.S. weapons are turned against Colombian civilians. We ask you to help stop the terror in Colombia.

No Aid to Israel Click here to download Word document

To Minnesota Senators Norm Coleman and Mark Dayton, U.S. policy in the Middle East includes massive military and economic aid to Israel. It is used to oppress the Palestinian people who struggle for basic human rights and self-determination. In the past 1000 days, over 2400 Palestinians have been killed and over 23,000 injured at the hands of the Israeli army and police. At least 79% of the land in the Occupied Territories (Palestinian land in the West Bank and Gaza Strip), has been taken by Israeli settlements, military installations, and industrial sites. As people of conscience, we urge the U.S. Congress and the Bush Administration to stop sending over $3 billion to Israel every year, and to end U.S. support for the brutal occupation. Help draw a real roadmap for peace.

University of Minnesota Divestment Click here to download Word document

The University of Minnesota should not support the Israeli Apartheid system of state terrorism, social domination and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. University finances, including both public funds and student fees, should not help the Israeli state and economy maintain human rights injustices against Palestinians. We, the undersigned, call on the University of Minnesota to divest from companies that are invested in and profit from Israeli Apartheid, beginning with General Electric, United Technologies and TCF Bank.
